03.19.08 | In Spirit: Marimba and Pan Duet
Ned Smith has finished "In Spirit." This duo for Marimba and Pan (Tenor) builds itself off of two very linear lines weaving around each other utilizing some primitivism techniques indirectly following Nelhybel's lead. Though not a serial composition, there is definite evidence of developing a tone row of sorts through a chorale setting, a very active rhythmic counterpoint, and a very spacious "notated improvisation," followed directly by an actual improvisation.

01.19.08 | New Developments
Hi everyone,

Sorry it has been so long since the last piece of news. So here we go:

1. Ned and Ben have been working feverishly in their spare time to write new compositions for an up coming concert. Ben is composing a multiple percussion duo piece called "Shh..." and a snare duet piece called "Corpless." These pieces are not done yet but will be soon. Ned is near completion of his marimba and steel drums duet which remains untitled for the moment.

2. The Ars Deum Percussion Duo had scheduled a concert last summer, but it reluctantly did not come together. The good news is that the weekend of July 26th, 2008 is a very possible time for a concert in CT and RI. More information will be available as the date approaches.

3. Ned Smith and Benjamin Fraley have new websites! Check them out at the links page.

I hope you are all well. God Bless.

This is our new website! Born Of Fire Publications was created by The Ars Deum Percussion Duo, percussionists and friends Ned Smith and Benjamin Fraley. Established in the summer of 2006, the Ars Deum Duo was created in order to expose communities not only to new percussion music, but percussion music that is inspired by the Holy Word. Ned and Bens' deep commitments to their faith and love for playing percussion are the seed for their mission.

The Ars Deum Percussion Duo Mission:
To expose communities and musicians to percussion music that is inspired by the Holy Word of God. The Ars Deum Percussion Duo will spread the Gospel, the importance of arts in our communities, and perform percussion music inspired by God with technique, integrity, and musicality.
